Welcome to the FreeCrochet community! Today we are making a charming crochet doily with a flower motif pattern that blends a classic round center with 3D floral edges.

This design features a light cotton base accented by green leaves and bright yellow buds, making it a gorgeous table centerpiece or handmade gift.

Materials & Tools Checklist

  • Light or medium weight smooth cotton yarn (white, green, and bright yellow)
  • Crochet hook sized 2.5 mm to 3.5 mm (check yarn label for exact match)
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends
  • Scissors

Pattern Stitches & Abbreviations

  • ch: chain
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • sc: single crochet
  • hdc: half double crochet
  • dc: double crochet
  • tr: treble crochet
  • st: stitch / sp: space / rep: repeat
  • ch-sp: chain space
  • dc2tog: double crochet two stitches together

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Round 1 (Center): With white yarn, make a magic ring. Ch 3 (counts as first dc), work 11 dc into ring. Join with sl st to top of beg ch-3 (12 st).
  2. Round 2: Ch 3, 1 dc in same st, then 2 dc in every st around. Join with sl st (24 dc). Keep increases even so the circle stays flat.
  3. Round 3: Ch 4 (1 dc + ch 1), work [dc, ch 1] in each st around. Join with sl st into third chain of beg ch-4 to create open lace spaces.
  4. Round 4: Sl st into first ch-1 sp, ch 3, 1 dc in same sp, ch 1, then work [2 dc, ch 1] in every ch-1 sp around. Join with sl st.
  5. Round 5: Sl st into space between first 2-dc groups, ch 4, 1 dc in same sp, ch 2, then work 1 dc in next sp. Rep [dc, ch 2] around, occasionally working [dc, ch 2, dc] in one space.
  6. Rounds 6-9: Alternate open chain spaces and groups of dc, using structures like [2 dc in next ch-sp, ch 2] and [3 dc in next ch-sp, ch 2] until center reaches 22 to 26 cm.
  7. Outer Foundation: Join white yarn at any ch-sp, ch 3, and work 2 dc in each ch-sp with ch-1 between groups.
  8. Scalloped Edge: Work [sc in next sp, skip 1 st, 5 dc in next sp, skip 1 st, sc in next sp] evenly around.
  9. Green Leaf Border: Join green yarn into top of a white shell. Ch 3, work [2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] into same point, then sl st to anchor. Work back across with [ch 1, sc, hdc, dc, tr, ch 2, sl st, tr] for the tip, and mirror with [dc, hdc, sc] down the side. Repeat around.

Assembly & Finishing

Attach your separately crafted yellow flower buds to the corresponding green leaf sections around the edge. Weave in all loose yarn tails securely.

Pro Tips for Best Results

  • Periodically lay your work flat during the center rounds to ensure it expands smoothly without cupping or ruffling.
  • Use smooth cotton yarn to keep the delicate lace stitches crisp and help the 3D flowers maintain their structure.
  • Block your finished doily lightly if needed so the decorative border lies naturally flat on your table.
