- hdc = half double crochet
- dc = double crochet
- fpdc = front post double crochet
- bpdc = back post double crochet

- st/sts = stitch/stitches / rnd = round / rep = repeat
- BO = bobble stitch (working several partially completed DCs into the same st and closing together)
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Circular Base: Using dark yarn, make an MR and work 6 sc into the ring. Pull closed, place a stitch marker, and work 2 sc in each st (12 sts). Continue increasing evenly: [1 sc, inc], then [2 sc, inc], and [3 sc, inc], adding one ordinary stitch between increases each round until the base reaches 38–45 cm across.
- Transition to Sides: Work one complete round of sc in BLO without increasing to create a ridged turn. Add 1-2 rounds of regular sc and a narrow orange accent round.
- Textured Sides: Switch to medium gray yarn, work 1-2 sc rounds, then create vertical ridges by repeating [fpdc around next st, bpdc around following st] or open mesh (ch 1, skip 1 st, dc in next st).
- Bobble Band: Switch to orange yarn and work a BO band, spacing bobbles with single crochets for clear separation.
Assembly & Finishing
Complete the upper edge and sturdy handles, weave in all loose ends securely, and check that your finished basket stands tall and even.
Pro Tips for Best Results
- Maintain a firm and even tension so the empty basket walls never collapse.
- Lay your work flat every few rounds during the base construction to prevent waviness or curling.
- Use stitch markers generously to keep track of continuous rounds and color changes.
